The Witches Wheel of the Year originates from the U.K precise dates are hard to do due to Australia’s different climates from State to State.

The Witches Wheel comes from nature, therefore The Witches Wheel dates would fall at different times each year.We have given each festival a date close to the time due to habit.To celebrate at the same time each year to make it easier on everyone.The Wheel of the Year expresses the annual cycles of the seasons.  People have celebrated the ever-turning wheel of the year with eight festivals which indicates important points in the cycle: two equinoxes, two solstices and four cross quarter days.

The Sabbats (from the Hebrew means to rest ) are Wiccan periods of festivals in which the male energy of the God, represented by the Sun,and the cycles of the life and death of God are celebrated.There are four Major and four Minor Sabbats each year.                

The Minor Sabbats
signify the four naturally occurring events in the annual cycle; the Spring and Autumn Equinox. The Summer and Winter Solstice.                                                                                                      

The Major Sabbats
are: Samhain, Imbolc, Beltane and Lammas.
These festivals celebrate never ending cycle which has no beginning or end.

Samhain (‘Sow’eine’): May 1st 

Other names for are: Halloween and All Hallows Eve. The year ends traditionally in Wiccan beliefs.    This is the most sacred festival celebrated throughout the Wheel of the Year. Samhain is said to be the time when the veils between the worlds are at their thinnest and least guarded. It is a time for remembering the ones who have passed away. It is a celebration of when the Lord dies, to be reborn at Yule.  This is the start of winter.

Yule: Nordic “iul” meaning wheel. June 21st-22nd                                                                                          
The Winter Solstice
festival, the longest night-shortest day of the year. When the Sun starts to come back closer to the Earth. In the Goddess worship, the rebirth of the God from his own planted seed.
  

Imbolc:(‘im mol’c’) Gaelic for ‘in the belly 1st – 2nd August                                                                             
Other names Candlemans, Imbolg, Brigit’s Day and Oimelc (ewe’s milk). This is a holiday of different meanings it is the very beginning of spring when we first notice the smallest hints. Brigit’s Day is a for the Irish Goddess, at her shine a perpetual flame is burning in her honor. Considered the goddess of fire, patroness of smith-craft, poetry and healing(especially the healing touch of midwifery.) One of the way’s this day is celebrated is by every house placing a candle in the window. Beginning on the Candlemans Eve (1st) and allowing them to continue burning until sunrise. Also a day for making candles.

Ostara: (‘o-stah-rah’) Between 20th-23rd September                                                                                     
 
The Spring Equinox,
the time when day and night are equal in length. The Goddesses and Gods are thanked for the return of happier times, for the return of the natures color. Ostara is a celebration of life, love, growth and fertility.

Beltane: (‘bell-tayn’)31st October is the eve  (1st November)                                                                            
Another name is festival of flowers and Beltaine  . The most well known celebration after the Samhain with the famous Beltaine fires. Beltane is the great fertility festival. The union of Goddess and God to conceive the sun-child. Most are celebrated with bonfires but some can are done with Maypoles. The Maypole is the phallic symbol of the God and the dancers and their streamers or vines of flowers represents the fertile womb of the Goddess. Belane is the time of many marriages. (the point to choose to begin or end a relationship)

Litha (‘LEE-tha’) Between 21st-23rd December                                                                                              
The Summer Solstice,
held on the longest day of the year, the Solstice is a celebration of light victory over darkness, when the Goddess and God are at their ultimate and all is bountiful green and growing. The shortest night of the year traditionally indicates a good time for magick and love rituals.

Lughnassad (‘LOO-nus-uh’) 1st February                                                                                                             
Another name is Lammas. Thanksgiving much feasting and dancing. Also to prepare for the coming of Winter and the death of Nature. For blessing of foods prepared.

Mabon (‘May-bon’) between 21st -23rd March                                                                                                  
The Autumn Equinox,
The days get shorter and the time when the Earth gets ready for the absence of the God. This is a weaver festival and a braiding of cords are done in the process of casting a spell.
